Judges Comments

What a player! Great rock/metal chops and a great, well constructed track: ultimately it was felt that he was a little too close to Mr Vai, but nevertheless gained many votes from the judges and in the end just missed out… As Ed Box comments: “This song is cool and quite evil. I wouldn’t want to mess with the Lavaman!”

Lavaman is the alter ego of Scottish Born Virtuoso Al Murdoch, who puts the emphasis on songs and melody rather than senseless shredding. His blend of inspirational melodies and song writing has already won him a cult following worldwide.
His home recorded zero budget album “Back to Earth” has been critically acclaimed and continues to sell and win over fans across the globe.
His music is a blend of rock and folk music with hints of every guitarist from Clapton to Vai.

He is joined by co writer and bassist John Ballatyne.Together they whip up an inspired frenzied instrumental guitar extravaganza.
Without a doubt he is one of the finest rock guitarists Scotland and the UK has ever seen.
